Since Wisconsin Revenue Caps for public education were adopted and "No Child Left Behind" became a reality on the Federal level, Central High School has lost the Instrumental and Choral lesson programs. The 2003-2004 school year was the last year group lessons were offered in the middle schoolst. Music lessons provide children with important developmental benefits beyond simply the knowledge or skill of playing a musical instrument. Research suggests that music instruction may enhance intelligence and academic achievement, build self-esteem and improve discipline. Click here to learn more about the research.
Music study is an expensive part of education for any family. Instrumental and Vocal music instruction is best accomplished through a one-to-one relationship between the student and the teacher over a period of many years. Summer music opportunities reinforce and strengthen skills learned at school and in lessons. Help WACMA make music lesson and summer camp opportunities a reality for students at Central. With recent cuts in our music programs our role has become more critical to the success of youngsters in our music programs.
